DDeath, isn't that just the cutest thing you have ever seen, and a few of them with the lights on their shoes is great. I could never dance so I appreciate guys that can.

One of the guys I have coffee with is just 8 years younger but it is like 20 years. He brings up people like Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, David Bowie and Rick Springfield, and they all stink. You know me I can go way back, and even up to current tunes, but so many of the people he mentions I would never listen to for one minute.

That's life as they say...

I heard Bobby Helms today with his 57' hit vocal. This is a repeat posting from me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y1f2NOtFQ8

Judith Durham from Australia knocks this one out from over 20 years ago... Me and the mule would like to make the great trek to the Australian Bush. Another rough territory like America's Wild West! Durham is one of my favorite female singers:

This comment was posted on Youtube about a week ago, and it was about one of Judith Durham's songs. Vietnam and radio listening comes to light, and it was like yesterday for me:

I have a friend who was an AP stringer (combat photographer) in Vietnam and SE Asia from '65 until after Tet. We were talking about what music the "Grunts" used to love to listen to when they were out in the field, and he said that the popular culture image of the soldiers smoking pot and listening to tapes of Steppenwolf and The Doors (and CCR, natch) are largely apocryphal. In actuality, as he recalls, the soldiers only had little transistors they'd picked up on R+R, etc., and that would fit in a rucksack. This meant that they were dependent for their musical enjoyment on whatever the AFVN DJs were putting on (and again, "Good Morning, Vietnam" Adrian Cronauer aside, the officially approved AFVN playlists tended toward "wholesome" and "apolitical" fare -- not quite Pat Boone or Percy Faith, but close). That didn't mean, however, that the soldiers didn't connect emotionally with the music. In one specific anecdote my friend shared with me, he was riding on top of an Armored Personnel Carrier headed up Highway One, watching a beautiful sunrise over the South China Sea while his young fellow passengers chatted away nervously, wondering what they were headed into (Hell, as it were) and the omnipresent transistors were playing AFVN. When this song came on, someone said something about "Home" and everyone fell silent, listening to this and lost in thoughts and memories.

My friend says that, to this day, he cannot hear this song dry-eyed.

Who in the hell made that list? I will throw out one song that beats everything on that list, and it was not included on that list.

I was surprised too. Then I realized those were the most popular in the WORLD, not just here in USA.
