Dazed,

You're cool and smooth, and diverse!

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down... I think the clip is best performed by Joan Baez: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW1Cv42xzYk

"I took the train to Richmond that fell."

This quote lives with this song, and it reminds me of when my family took a road trip from Alpine to Richmond in the Summer of 1958. I mentioned this before, and I have distant family (a number of relatives) from the Richmond area who were given freedom by manumission in the 1850s. Westward to Texas they went. The American South is home for me...

The Platters and the 1950s... I have to go back time and time again to a Richmonder, Tommy Edwards: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gtizr2G_7Bk

I almost always like the original recording except in cases like this.

Joe Cocker was great.

Meatloaf - He was the lead singer when I saw Hair in Detroit a long time ago. I didn't know it until over 20 years later when my ex found the program. Nobody sings like this anymore.

Dazed,

You know I'm not a BIG TIME Rock&Roll fan per se, but I always have to repeat my favorite clips of Joe Walsh. Hands-down, Walsh is my favorite. I played another version of the following song for Ucanit years ago, and the man (Ucanit) was truly inspired with my musical taste!

Joe & Rocky Mountain Way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pTHF1zGqD4

... and Joe with an earlier version (Eagles): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LILVWzEMMg

RIP Ucanit... We miss you.

Tex, I know my music tastes run all over the place. Like with that song Sail. I have been playing that melody in my head for years. Come to find out it was the music fro Last of the Mohicans - one of my favorite movies of all time.

DDeath, that song has been haunting me for years since I heard the rock version. Nobody knew what I was talking about and I couldn't remember any of the words. Then I heard it on a Nissan commercial, and that is how I found it. As soon as Google said Last of the Mohicans, I said of course. This is the only theme song that sticks in my brain.

DDeath & Dazed,

I don't cross the line to the 70s very often, but here's one I know DDeath will give a thumbs-up to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfYkhQblYjY

Not bad...

Dazed,

Get your arse back over here and pass me an ice-cold Coca-Cola!

I'm a Lou Rawls fan going way back, but Sam Cooke tops most of them all. Both sang with the Soul Stirrers in the late 50s...

Pass me a cold one! ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWTBf6ecQoM

Cook & Rawls at their best! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dl5usKhGz60
