I don't see you as a liar, but maybe you're just getting old and forgetful!
I remember AM89 WLS from the 1960s on return visits from SE Asia to California. I'd listen during the late evening hours when Chicago's signal would boom in from afar. WLS was unique being centrally located, because they had good signal coverage east and west. Their signal hit south too (and still does), but tofay's broadcast programming has changed with right much syndicated broadcasting. The days of my AM radio with local personalities are gone...
Speaking of radio - this article mentions a radio station in Richmond, VA that I remember when our family visited Richmond in 1957 or 58:
